An adjustable piston gas block allows the user to completely turn off the gas for single shots. However, to take the gas settings a notch higher, a good piston upper or conversion kit allows for not only restricting the gas flow, but also letting off some forward pressure to minimize the blowback, heat, and noise caused by the high pressure.
