Luggage Bag

It’s possible that the bag- of baggage is the familiar English word for “sack to carry things in,” borrowed into French and then back to English again, but it’s hard to know for sure: words like bag and sack, spread through trade and commerce and travel, have origins that are dim in the mists of time.
